Welcome to the College Degree video series. Today we are going to cover 5 careers for a Criminal Justice student / graduate

Due the increase in population, there will be a need for those with criminal justice degrees to combat the growing need for protecting citizens, solving cases, and rehabilitation of offenders.

Let’s take a look at 5 careers in criminal justice:

A career in becoming a Court Reporter requires the accurate transcribing of court proceedings, trials, and other related events.

Their transcriptions create a detailed record of the court events that can be used to help convict guilty individuals.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a court reporter can make up to $53,010 a year.

Police Officers are viewed by most individuals as protectors in society since they have the power to arrest suspects, enforce laws, respond to calls for service, and many other civic duties.

Before graduates with a Criminal Justice degree become an officer, they will need to complete police academy and on-the-job training.

There are various types of police officers, they can make $57,770 a year on average.

Working alongside law enforcement, Crime Scene Examiners help solve crimes by collecting and analyzing evidence at a crime scene.

Crime Scene Examiners will often work long hours from traveling to crime scenes, collecting evidence, and then going back to their laboratories for classifying the evidence.

They can make up to $55,730 annually based on BLS data.

Next up are Judges.

Judges are the main overseers of the legal process in the courtroom as well as mediators for negotiations and disputes between two parties.

They can also approve search and arrest warrants when asked by law enforcement agencies.

The annual pay average for a judge can be as high as $102,470.

In the criminal justice system, lawyers are one of the most flexible since they can represent individuals, businesses, or government agencies on legal matters or disputes.

There are many different titles for lawyers from tax lawyers to prosecutors.

As one of the most high paying careers with a criminal justice degree, the potential salary for a lawyer annually is $130,880.

A degree in Criminal Justice offers a wide range of career opportunities that does not lead to just law enforcement but to the courtroom too.
