How to Apply

for High School Students

Step 1: Choose which Application to Complete

High School students may apply to ESF using either The Common Application OR the SUNY Application. both available online. Follow the directions for the option you choose.

If you are considering applying under the Early Decision plan you must be familiar with the policies and procedures and submit the Early Decision Agreement with your application.

The Early Decision application deadline is December 1.

NOTE. If you are applying for the 3+3 BS/DPT program with Upstate Medical University. you must use the SUNY Application.

OPTION 1

SUNY Application

1) Complete and submit the on-line SUNY Application form, using the Program Search to select your program of study.

2) Complete and submit the SUNY-ESF Supplemental Application on which you must indicate your first and second choice of major and complete all other items, including the essay question response.

2A) Early Decision Applicants must complete and submit the Early Decision Agreement (PDF only).

3) You may have your school counselor or a teacher submit a letter of recommendation to the SUNY-ESF Admissions Office. Recommendations are not required but will be considered if submitted.

OPTION 2

Common Application

1) Complete and submit the on-line Common Application form, including:

  • SUNY-ESF specific Member Questions .
    You must indicate your first and second choice program of study, upload your response to the ESF essay question and complete all other items.
  • Your Recommender .
    Have your school counselor submit the counselor recommendations form on-line or directly to the SUNY-ESF Admissions Office. Recommendations are not required but will be considered if submitted.
  • Early Decision applicants only:
    You must complete the Early Decision agreement on The Common Application web site.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

A $50 non-refundable application fee or completed fee waiver form must be submitted, as directed by the application process you have chosen to use, before your application will be reviewed by the SUNY-ESF Admissions Committee.

Step 3: Send your Transcripts

Have your school counselor send your official high school transcript, including your first quarter grades for your senior year, directly to the SUNY-ESF Admissions Office or on-line through the application process you have chosen to use.

Regular Freshmen and Guarantee Transfer Applicants: Your transcript must include your senior year courses and first quarter grades.

Step 4: Submit your SAT or ACT Scores

Submission of scores for either the SAT I or ACT (or both) is required for high school applicants. The highest scores for each section from all test dates will be considered. We will accept SAT or ACT scores included on your high school transcript as official. But, if they are not posted to your transcript, you must have them sent from the testing agency. SUNY-ESF s SAT code is 2530 and our ACT code is 2948.

Step 5: Apply for Financial Aid

NOTE: International students are not eligible for financial aid.

Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and have the results sent to SUNY-ESF. Our FAFSA Code is 002851. The Financial Aid application deadline for Early Decision applicants is February 1. The recommended filing date for Regular Freshmen Applicants is March 1.
